Step 1 is committing to making a square,
(to become a "pink artist," leave your name in
Now, the really fun part starts!
Polymer Clay, Photographs, Found Objects,
Paint, Glitter, Crochet, Faces, Digital art,
Fabric, Rubber Stamps, Doodlings,
Leftover scraps of paper from larger projects,
stray beads, gessoed cardboard, Leather,
embroidered scrap, rusted metal...
what's laying around your studio?
Pick it up and trim it down to a 2" square.
Look for inspiration from a WORD jumping off a page.
I recently picked up a book from a thrift store with
BLACK & WHITE images of stars from the 20's and 30's.
What grabbed me was the expressive photographs,
but what made those images WORK was the verbage
in and around the page.

IMPORTANT: make a fabric base for your square
Create a fabric base for your square,
the cloth enables the hand sewing
of your square to our doll.
Batting optional.
You don't have to add any sewing
to your square, so if you prefer GLUE-
Go FeR IT
just be sure I can get a needle through
the four corners of your square.
Gel Medium is a successful way
to adhere paper to cloth.
I made a sandwich of cloth, batting, cloth.

Quickly, I colored the B&W images with chalk
and smeared it around with my finger:
Leftover beads, small strings of embroidery
floss ... look for itty bits to use as embellishments.
Most important of all,
have fun with this-
SHOW OFF YOUR BEAUTY.
The FIVE squares I made took no more than one short eve.
Think ... just 30 minutes
of your time ... that's all it takes.

Mail your art square to me at:

I can't wait to start! Thanks for the inspiration!
Monica, my little "sister". Of course, I want to be a part of this. A very dear friend of mine passed away due to breast cancer. We only have 3 years knowing each other, but they were so wonderful. Then she went out of remission & died at 50. I was so sadden that we didn't have our full life times to get to enjoy each other's company, but she is still in my heart.

Hi Monica,
Thank you for your kind words on my blogsite...
I am finding it really interesting working "small"..I will post your logo and a sample of the 1st three I made yesterday....Couldnt wait and made three little pinkies, then read your post again, and realised that I was trying too hard to go pink..So will have fun again today using the colours that seem to be mine at the moment..

Hi. I picked up the current Art Doll Quarterly today and when I saw your creation and realized we lived in the same city, I was very excited!!! I would love to be a pink artist. I will get my square to you as soon as I can. Maybe one day we can meet in person, I am a mixed media artist.
