And by "she" I mean ME! I'll get to that in a minute, but first...I really hadn't ever thought about cutting my own stencils out before, but I DID tell myself that ONE day I'd like to try my hand at carving my own stamps for the making of fabric.
In March Michelle started part one of the challenge in her Cut It Out post- carve your own stamps. I missed that crusade due to the making of The Pink Artist Doll though I still went out and ordered the supplies.Staring at a new block is no different from starting with a blank canvas. I had no idea what I was going to do so with it being my first CARVE I decided to free-flow it. Don't ask me what MINE is (the one on the left) I went with my mood- someone care to Freud me? -smile-
Jeff on the other hand seemed to have
a better handle on his outcome,
I love the EYE he carved:

The carving block packaging read, "cuts like butter" and they were right. The stencil sheets were a very different matter [for me].

Alright so this was also my FIRST attempt at making stencils
and just like any other situation I always opt to learn by trial & error opposed to reading the directions first.
Someone knock me in the head for not reading
Michelle's advice early on:
GPP Street Team: CRUSADE No. 19 ~ Cut It Out: II
It surely would have saved me from over thinking the design
and from cutting into places I wasn't s'posed to.
Live & Learn.

Here is where I started to stray...
I scanned my sheet of "stenciled figure"and printed it to cloth:
And I now have three vrry kuhl cloth sheets waiting to be embellished:

But, those sheets will have to wait for a rainy day
because somewhere between stencil making & carving
I started to play in Photoshop using the STAMP option:

EUREKA! moment happened! The stencil cutouts I made and the use of Photoshop opened
the door to my playing with and making paper dolls!
****************************
So you see I may have strayed off topic just a little bit
when incorporating the STAMP option from PS,
but I'm guessing Michelle won't mind at all...
it's because I tried my hand at stencil making and carving
that I created the day away with Frida Kahlo and Linda Evangelista- both fond of very BIG shoes and both ready to break out into song.
_
Big fat THANK YOU to Michelle for extending
this months crusade to TODAY,
I might have missed the opportunity
if she hadn't. :)

MAMA MIA! What a plethora of coolness!! From carving to the stamp feature to the dolls- what a great post!! I'm totally off to check out photoshop!
Awesome and very beautiful! If I can get over this damn cold and get my butt in gear, perhaps I can try out this crusade. I already have the carving block, ironically enough.
Keep up the awesome work! Hugs!
They look so awesome. You've done a spectacular job.
Check you out girl! Stamps and stencils and photoshop play!! It's all good, and looks great! Isn't fun to step out of your default mode of operation and try something new? You pocket new skills and stumble upon new things. Thanks for sharing all this cool stuff as you began a new adventure, with Jeff along for the ride!!
Girl, you are SO creative! You've sparked some ideas for me! Thank you!
You rock!
!!!! Monica! Fantastic...you are brilliant!!
Wow! Stamps, stencils, Photoshop and paper dolls all at once! You are definitely an inspiration to me!!

Fantastic stamps, stencils and Photoshop work, looks like you learned some stuff and had a ton of fun! You are definitely a woman of many talents! :)
oh! I am SOOO tickled by today's post - what fun!! Personally, I think both carved stamps came out fantastic, though I totally get why you like Jeff's so much. :) those cloth sheets ROCK and the dolls are UBER-ROCKIN! It's nice to know that there are others out their that are sooooo easily distracted (even if it's often in a really good way).
thanks for the grins. ~M~
ps - this just might turn into the BEST birthday month to date. :)
I am so loving FRIDA!!! Are we missing some photos here? There are squares with x's in them. I can't be missing any pictures. MWWWAAAAH!
about those X's, I was about to throw a big fit because I didn't see any photos either, I was thinking it was my pc, but it must be a glitch in the system. Each time I came back to the site more x's disappear.
What fun you are having and you even got Jeff in on it...You never cease to amaze me.
Loooooove what you are up to, every last morsel!!!! Stamping, any form even photoshop (love it) is gooooooood!!!!
Okay! There HAS to be SOMETHING you can't do well, right? Tell me there's one LITTLE BITTY something so I won't feel so inferior! LOL! LOVE the stamps (yours AND Jeff's) and your paperdolls are way cute! Photoshop ... sigh. I swear I'm an IDIOT because I have it yet can't seem to figure it out. YOU ARE BRILLIANT!
Great work! What fun! Carving is my most favorite thing!

Straying off-topic seems to have a really big pay-off in inspiration - love the stamps, the stencils - and especially the paperdolls - oh, their shoes! Love 'em!
Your stamp looks like two baby birds in a nest with their mouths open and a wing on the right. Of course it is Spring and there are many birds hatching, so this is what is on my mind and what I see. What a fun project!
Wow you did get carried away...looks terrific!
OMG, I just recently bought some rubber stamp carving gear and I am having a blast I tell ya!
the possibilities are endless!
my first time to your blog and loving what i see!! thanks for sharing!!
I've been tempted to try carving my own stamps for awhile now. I really like your results! The stencils were very cool too...I had never thought of that. I might actually go give it a try!
Diana
Large shoes.... and big wings...anything looks great with that combination!!!
Now, I'm laughing at the 2 very different expressions that the dolls are wearing!! I think I tend to be more like the one with 'butterfly' boobs...( along with my own butterfly boobs) - hehehe! Maybe if I wore very large shoes...it would be a good distraction:)~ I'll have to try it!!
HHhmmm..maybe that 'straying' off the topic thing is catchy......
Debra
Super di duper!!!
I noticed your etsy, I want a canvas body and I still want to buy one of those quilties you make as my treasure...
heading to etsy, yay!!!!
Oh my goodness. How fun is your stuff?? And all those recipes for us Queens to use?.....priceless. I'll be checking back often and adding you to my blogroll!
Cheers,
Krissy
I'm always inspired by your creativity, but even more by your lack of fear to try new things!
Just beautiful, as always.
If you get a chance, please stop by my blog - In an effort to help in the fight against breast cancer, I'm giving away a $75.00 gift certificate!

Love your paper dolls! Wild and fun like you! And I love that you lino-cut your own stamp and Jeff too! Way to go! I used to do this and make cards years ago...way fun and even cooler idea to set your stamp and ink in fabric! I'm impressed that Jeff made one too! FUN!!! You both did a great job! What a cool project!
Oh, Monica, these are FABULOUS! Have you been checking out Suziblutube on youtube and her paperdoll puppet theatres? (her Jake Gyllenhall puppet is a scream!) I think you could have quite a performance going on at your house with these two hotties on the stage!!!
All I can say is "FAN TAS TIC"!!!!
